20 year-old Scott Ruddock from Stockton  recently completed a four year Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering through the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre, Scot who was at NETA for his off-the-job training, was rewarded for completing an outstanding NVQ Level 3 E Portfolio which is now being used as a benchmark by assessors and apprentices.

Scott, who has now been taken on as a permanent member of staff at the University Hospital North Tees, was awarded a trophy, silver plate and a voucher towards tools, at the Regional NHS Estates Presentation Evening 2008 at the James Cook University Hospital.

“It is one of the biggest achievements of my Apprenticeship to have been recognised for the hard work I put into my final year. I’m really proud that it has been chosen as an ‘Exemplar’ and has set the standard for other apprentices,” said Scott.

Eileen Bayles, Regional Training and Development Manager at the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre said: “Not only was Scott’s portfolio of a very high standard, he also managed to finish it early! He was definitely deserving of the 4th Year apprentice of the Year Cup which was a fitting way for him to complete his apprenticeship before venturing into a full-time career. Scott has excelled in his last year showing excellent attitude and a cheerful member of the group”

Scott began his Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering in 2004 through the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre, and studied at NETA’s Billingham Centre for his first year off-the-job training, where he began his NVQ Level 2 and gained an insight into areas including basic electric skills, health and safety and the safe use of tools.

The next three years of the programme were carried out at the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre based at the University Hospital of North Tees. During this time Scott completed a number of additional specialist training courses including a HNC in Electrical Engineering, PAT testing, 17th Edition and Inspection and Testing courses, whilst working towards his NVQ Level 3 qualification.

He has recently been taken on as an electrical craftsperson at the University Hospital of North Tees, where he is involved with all aspects of electrical maintenance and installation.

Peter Mitchell, Associate Director of Operations – Estates and Facilities for North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Scott has produced some very good work throughout his apprenticeship. We are very pleased with his progress and delighted that we have now employed Scott on a permanent basis.”
