Can I nominate my own Apprentice? |
Yes, however you must give us the details no later than 1st May as the candidate has to sit the aptitude test. |
Can I tailor an Apprenticeship to suit my company's needs? |
Yes, an Apprenticeship will undertake an NVQ appropriate to the trade sector in which he/she will be working. here are a number of units within this NVQ and you will be able to choose those most appropriate to your business. We will also ask you to provide a job description for your ideal candidate. We can advise you on any additional training that may be required to meet your specification |
What costs are associated with the Apprenticeship? |
All training, assessment, registration and examination fees associated with the NVQ are paid for by the LSC. As the Employer you will pay the Apprentice at least £80 (may increase to £95 from September 2009) during initial training along with any travelling expenses. The only other cost to you would be if you required additional training that falls outside of the NVQ framework. These costs would be negotiated and agreed prior to the start of the training. |
How long is an Apprenticeship? |
The duration of Apprenticeships for most trades is 3 years. However those of Technical and Instrumentation are 4 years |
What if my business is outside of the immediate area and I need to recruit someone local? |
We can help you formulate a recruitment advert and help you interview possible candidates. |
What does the initial training involve? |
Apprentices will receive training in skills common to all trades before starting their trade specific training. Key skills and a technical certificate appropriate to their chosen skill area is also undertaken. The technical certificate is generally taken at a local FE college on day or block release. |
How will I know if my apprentice is progressing? |
You will be kept informed about his/her progress through the 8 week reviews. In addition you may contact us at anytime for a progress report. |
