Key skills are those skills that will help you become an effective member of staff in any place of work and are a mandatory element of the apprentice framework. They help you to become flexible and adaptable - a highly valued member of the team.

There are six key skills . Functional Skills all highly valued by employers

  • Communication
  • Improving your own learning and performance
  • Information Technology
  • Problem Solving
  • Working with others

What is a technical certificate?

This is a qualification within most apprenticeships. It assesses the specialist knowledge and understanding needed within a particular job.

How do I apply?

1.  Just fill in an application form (ticking as many disciplines as you want) and return it in the stamped addressed envelope which will be provided. You will need to do this quickly as  places are limited. The Closing Date each year is usually the end of April.

2. You will be invited to take an online aptitude test which is made up of the following:-

  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Communication
  • Engineering concept and science
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Numerical Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

3. If you pass the test you will be invited for an interview.

4. If you successfully complete both the aptitude test and the interview, we will make your details available to companies looking for apprentices in the disciplines you choose. They will shortlist and invite candidates for an interview. However, final job offers may depend on you achieving your predicted GCSE results and is the decision of the employer.

5. You could be offered a place either by one of these companies or NETA may be able to help you find an employer. In both cases you will do your training at NETA.

Please Note

You are not automatically guaranteed an apprenticeship even if you get through both steps 2 and 3. Offers will depend on the number of successful candidates and quantity of places available.
